Chicago Urban League Announces Preliminary Plans for a Safe Convening of its 60th Annual Golden Fellowship Dinner

CHICAGO (August 12, 2021) – After holding its annual fundraising gala on a virtual platform last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chicago Urban League plans to return to an in-person celebration for its 60th Annual Golden Fellowship Dinner on Saturday, November 6, 2021. The gala and the pre-gala Golden Fellowship Exchange will take place at the Hyatt Regency Chicago with several precautions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

All in-person attendees will be required to:

  • Show proof of vaccination
  • Wear masks throughout the events
  • Observe appropriate social distancing

To allow for social distancing, in person attendance for the gala will be limited to 1,000. In normal times, the Golden Fellowship Dinner draws more than 1,500 attendees.

“The Golden Fellowship Dinner is a tradition that means a lot to our organization, partners and supporters, and we know that many people have gotten vaccinated so that they can get back to doing things they enjoy,” said Chicago Urban League President & CEO Karen Freeman-Wilson. “We want to recognize that effort by making sure we can safely celebrate the 60th year of this occasion for fellowship, reflection and fun.”

There will also be an option for supporters to participate virtually in the gala and the exchange.

The two-day event will be themed 60 Years and Onward: Meeting the Moment With the Movement. The programming will recognize progress in the efforts for racial equity while also recognizing that, amid the political climate across the country, the Urban League movement matters more than ever.

Additional information about this year’s gala and exchange will be available in the coming weeks, and ticket sales will begin in September.
